Gretel is a storyteller at heart who builds community across local and global spheres. She has served as Writer and Multimedia Specialist for Daybreak Vision Project since December 2021 and Director of Communications since March 2024. Originally from the red hills of St. George, Utah, Gretel has lived in Djibouti, Australia, Nepal, India, Germany, and currently Saudi Arabia. She holds a Masters of Educational Technology from Boise State University and a B.A. in Communications from Brigham Young University.

She was presented with the Secretary of State Award for Outstanding Volunteerism Abroad for her technology outreach efforts with disadvantaged Nepali students and received a literacy grant to assist young girls in Mumbai. She has published and presented on a variety of topics and is writing her first book. Gretel is honored to serve and wishes every day could begin in a courtyard full of patients as they experience their own daybreak moment during patch removal. Watching thousands of blind patients see again has transformed her.
