Dr. Ahmed is an Ophthalmologist and Fellowship trained vitreoretinal surgeon. He specializes in surgical and medical treatments of the retina and vitreous with special interest in sickle cell retinopathy and retinal detachments.
He is a graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He completed ophthalmology training at the Ghana College of Physician and Surgeons and acquired a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery from both the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology, Nepal and the Aravind Eye care Hospital Systems in India.
Dr Ahmed works as a Specialist at The Komfo Anokye teaching hospital in Kumasi, Ghana. He serves as the Managing Director of Rods and Cones Eye care Services Limited in Ghana and is on the Board of trustees for Agyeman Eye foundation, an NGO whose mission is to support Blind and Partially blind people to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
He is also interested in reduced the burden of cataract blindness in Ghana and has been heavily involved in numerous outreaches organized by the various organizations such as the Himalayan Cataract Project.
